I am looking for a hard disk based player to play avi files on my home theater. I need hdmi and digital (or optical) audio output.
I am looking for a player that can play various kinds of avi/divx files and output to 1080p.
Things that I don’t care for are network connectivity, size and I don’t need one with a built in disc drive.
Can someone provide me a few good options with their reviews ?
Money is not a problem. I want to know about the best possible players for this purpose.
I am not very critical of video quality and 1080p output is good enough for me. However I need very good quality audio output.
Today we are looking at the Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA-II hard disk drive. This particlar drive comes with a 5 year warranty, is quiet whilst not ruling out being very quick too. Lots of hard drives on the market are quicker, but you compensate by having a noisy drive. This drive has all the features you would want, from a trusted manufacturer.
I bought a Western Digital pocket studio hard disk drive recently. I read some bad reviews about it the very same day. People experienced that they lost their data and it stopped working after a month and all. It was on some blog. Now i payed a lot to get it. I want to put stuff in it but I’m worried that it might too fail. Shall i depend on the other peoples comments or is the company really good? If the disk does break down, will i be able to get my files back? If yes, how?
:S
I have a Dell Latitude D820. Unfortunately it as got only 60GB hard disk SATA drive. I want at least 120 GB hard disk drive because it is not sufficient for running all my study related programs. I am planning to change my hard drive.
I have installed Windows Vista Ultimate and some other programs for my studies. I don’t want to lose them. I can reinstall them later also, but only as a last option. Using an external hard drive for the OS is ruled out.
Is there any way by which I may be able to copy my entire hard drive to another hard drive with more capacity to be used in the same computer??? I mean the whole Vista OS should be usable after the entire hard drive is copied.
No critical reason. Just that I don’t like the idea of using an external drive.
For "thedeath"
I have mentioned that I am going to use the new hard drive on the same system as a replacement for the old drive. So I think the issue for system compatibility does not arise. Does it?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR498E/W pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. I want to install Windows XP SP3. When I insert the WinXP CD and boot, the laptop goes through all its normal routines and finally asks the normal "hit enter to continue". Then it says it did not find a hard disk and cannot install. I only have option to quit. How can I get XP installed on the machine???
Here is a review of the specific model about which I am talking:

My computer freezes a LOT. I got the blue screen of death twice. then Windows troubleshooting window came up and told me "Troubleshoot a problem with your computer’s hard disk
Windows isn’t able to open a file on your computer’s hard disk. This might be a temporary condition that could go away after restarting your computer, or it could be a more serious problem with your hard disk or its driver"
I did all the instructions and at the end it says "after your computer restarts and the error check has run, review the summary report for any bad sectors or files that were repaired"
but i never got any summary report!
and this is really getting in the way of my school work and stuff so if you could help me as fast as possible i would much appreciate it!!!
Will formating to much hurt your hard drive? And I know everything is wiped clean but what really happens to all the stuff that was on my disk drive?
